Spinning involves transforming the cotton fibres into yarns, including the cleaning, blending, twisting together of the fibres and the final coiling of the yarn. Most spinning mills are located in Asia and specifically in China and India. The quality of the spun yarns depends on the staple length of the cotton and the spinning technique, the most common being “ring spinning” und “open-end spinning”. The yarn quality is measured either in:
weight per length:
1 tex = 1 gram/1000 metres
1 den = 1 gram/9000 metres
length per weight:
1 Nm = 1 metre/1 gram
1 Ne = 1 hang/1 English pound
